Officials suspicious of fire that gutted historical Staten Island building

A fire that tore through an historic house on Staten IsšŸ¦‹land today has been deemed suspicious by fire officials.

The blaze guttedš’†™ one-story Kruser-Finley House in Historic Richmond Town at around 4:30 p.m., authorities said.

Deputy Chief John Hodgens said the incidšŸ…ŗent was deemed ā€œsuspiciousā€ because they have not yet found a root cause for the blaze.

Ed Wiseman, executive director of Historic Richmond Town, called thešŸØ inź¦cident a tremendous loss.

ā€œItā€™s centurź¦“ies of history that just was extinguished in one afternoon,ā€ Wiseman said.

The house, craftmanā€™s workshop, was built in 1790šŸ’› and is a part of the areaā€™s historic houses and muš’ˆ”seum.
