As they led the Washington, DC, rally for stricter gun laws, several student survivors from Parkland, Fla., wore orange 𓃲tags emblazoned with “$1.05.”
That’s how much Sarah Chadwick, a junior at Marjo☂ry Stonema💛n Douglas High School said Sen. Marco Rubio received in support from the National Rifle Association for each of the 3,140,167 students enrolled in Florida schools.
“Is tha𓆏t all we’re worth to these politicians? A dollar-five? Would $17.85 be all it cost you that day, Mr. Rubio?” Chadwick said.
She got the $17.85 figure by multiplying $1.05 by 17, the number of people killed at her sc♔hool on Valentine’s Day.
“I say one life is worth more than all the guns in America,” Chadwick stated to t꧒he crowd’s cheers.
“To the politicians that believe that their right to own a gun comes before our lives — get ready to get voted out by us, the future. We will not allow a price to be put upon our lives.”
Fellow student organizer David Hogg tied his orange tag to the microphone as the start of his s♔peech.
“I’m going to start off by puttin🔯g this price tag right here as a reminder for you guys to know how much Marco Rubio took for every student’s life in Florida,” 𝔉he said.
Rubi𒀰o, a Republican, acknowledged the demonstr🧸ations in a Twitter post that called for compromise on the issue of gun control.
“Today many are peacefully exercising their #1A right toജ march for gun ban. Many support gun ban. But many others see it as infringement of #2A that won’t prevent shootings. Protest is g🍬ood way of making a point, but making a change will require both sides finding common ground,” .
