This week is all about the All-Stars. But we’re not going to waste space here telling you who we think should make a midseason fantasy All-Star team. You already know who is doing well and who isn’t.
Instead, we’ll give you our second-half waiver All-Stars. Here’s a roster of guys you might be able to pick up off the wire: 1B: Chad Tracy, Diamondbacks – His power numbers (6 HRs, 28 RBIs) should rise. Plus, he’s eligible at third base.
2B: Tadahito Iguchi, White Sox – Average (.253) is about 20 points off his career mark. Should at least double his first-half homer total (5).
3B: Aubrey Huff, Orioles – Not the 30-HR, .300 hitter from earlier this decade, but he did finish June with a flurry. Has multiple-position eligibility.
SS: Stephen Drew, Diamondbacks – As average (.242) increases, so will runs scored. He did hit .316 in 59 games last year, so he’s capable of a hot streak.
OF: Pat Burrell, Phillies – Was a stud two years ago (32 HRs, .282). He’s got to have something left to boost his .209 average and 10-HR total. Then again, maybe he caught Bret Boone syndrome.
OF: Moises Alou, Mets – Has been out since mid-May but is expected back in a couple of weeks. Had a .318 average before his quad injury. Should score plenty of runs upon his return.
OF: Brian Giles, Padres – Getting back in rhythm after a DL stint, but needs to get out of the leadoff spot. Doesn’t pack the power he used to, but still should register double-digit HRs from here on out.
C: David Ross, Reds – Not much to choose from, but Ross is better than his .196 average and hits for power (13 HRs).
SP: Pedro Martinez, Mets – If he’s still there, scoop him up quickly. He’s expected back in August. Should be good for five or six wins and an ERA just over 4.00.
RP: Hideki Okajima, Red Sox – It’s almost impossible to find saves at this point. Instead, Oka gives you phenomenal ERA (0.88) and WHIP (0.78).
