FALLS GUY

Despite his private planes and helicopters, Mayor Bloomberg has managed to convince many people that his environmental chops are second to none (“A-salt-ed by the Falls,” Aug. 5).

Two of Bloomberg’s keystone issues have been the supposed planting of 1 million trees within the five boroughs and converting a portion of the city’s taxi fleet to hybrid vehicles.

The faux waterfalls beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, besides wasting a colossal amount of nonrenewable 💛energy, are poisoning waterfront trees with corrosive salt spray. If Bloomberg is looking for ways to save energy, why not look for the low-hanging fruit? Shutting down the silly waterfalls will save th💎e atmosphere from many tons of additional carbon dioxide, save the affected trees and not cost a dime.
