Pedro Martinez returned to the majors with a win, pitching five innings and leading the Phillies over the Cubs 12-5 last night in Chicago.
Martinez (1-0) allowed seven hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts during a five-inning stint that saw him throw 99 pitches. His fastest pitch was clocked at 92 mph. His 215th career win was his first since last Aug. 31 against Florida while with the Mets.
Shane Victorino, Jimmy Rollins and Raul Ibanez homered for the Phillies.

In Seattle, pinch-hitter Ken Griffey Jr. lined a single off the right-field wall with two outs in the bottom of the 14th to lead the Mariners. Seattle shortstop Jack Wilson left the game because of a sore left hamstring.

In Anaheim, the Angels completed a three-game sweep as Gary Matthews Jr. put the Angels (68-44) ahead with three-run homer in the sixth and Howie Kendrick added another three-run shot in the seventh.
