NFL: Chargers’ Rivers inks 6-year extension
Chargers QB Philip Rivers signed a six-year contract extension through 2015 worth a reported $92 million. Rivers, 27, threw 23 TD passes last season and led the NFL with a QB rating of 105.5.
* Vikings head coach Brad Childress said he expects Brett Favre to play the entire first half of Minnesota’s next exhibition game Monday night at Houston . . . Michael Vick‘s teammates said the quarterback looks ready to play when the Eagles host Jacksonville on Thursday.
BLOTTER: Ex-‘Husker RB convicted of murder
Former Nebraska running back Thunder Collins was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges stemming from a September 2008 shooting in Omaha that left one man dead and another seriously wounded.
* Police searched boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s Rolls-Royce at his home in the investigation of a shooting outside a Las Vegas skating rink. Witnesses said they saw the vehicle at the scene of the shooting late Sunday in which no one was hurt, but another vehicle was hit with bullets.
* Cristal Taylor, a former girlfriend of Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki, reportedly was sentenced to five years in prison for violating probation.

Tiger Woods won the Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge, edging defending champion Camilo Villegas $230,000 to $200,000 in a skins game format at Turning Stone Resort’s Atunyote Golf Club in Verona, N.Y.
* Mike Lowell and J.D. Drew homered as the Red Sox blasted the White Sox 12-8 last night at Fenway Park . . . Carlos Pena and Ben Zobrist each homered and the Tampa Bay Rays handed Toronto’s Roy Halladay (13-7) his worst loss in more than two years, beating the slumping Blue Jays 12-7 . . . Jason Giambi, 38, signed a minor league contract with the Rockies yesterday and he could be back in the major leagues by next week.
