A rare 19th-century hand-carved goose decoy from Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna River is going on the auction block in New York City.
It could sell for as much as $400,000.
It is being sold by an Argentinean man whose family had purchased it from an American expatriate 30 years ago.
The family was unaware of its value until they e-mailed a photo of the Canada Goose decoy to Christie’s auction house.
To their surprise, Christie’s said it was a very unusual example of a working decoy.
It will be sold on Sept. 30.
