ALBANY — Support continues to grow for same-sex marriage in New York state, according to a poll released yesterday.
The Quinnipiac University survey found that, by 56 to 37 percent, voters want gay marriage legalized, up from the high in June 2009 of 51 to 41 percent.
The new poll showed Democrats back gay marriage, 69 to 25 percent, and independents, 55 to 39 percent, while Republicans are opposed, 54 to 41 percent.
It remains unclear if a gay-marriage proposal, defeated last year in the state Senate, will be taken up again.
