Tribeca: “White White World”

Serbian director Oleg Novkovic’s “White White World”  is a brutal musical thriller set in the decaying and polluted industrial town of Bor, where a boxer turned bartender has affairs with a woman who killed her husband to save her lover and with that woman’s rebellious 18-year-old daughter. Scenes of sex and violence are mixed with soulful songs performed by the leading characters. The powerful movie ends with  a choir of real-life miners singing, “The gutter is our mother, misery is our sister.” It’s not a easy movie to sit through, but viewers’ patience will be rewarded. Two screenings remain, Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. and Saturday at 12:45 p.m., both at the Chelsea Cinema.
