Mets center fielder Angel Pagan was scheduled to play his first rehab game with St. Lucie on Wednesday night at Tampa.
Terry Collins said Pagan had no problems after his simulated game Tuesday as he recovers from an oblique injury that has sidelined him since April 22.
“[Rehab coordinator Randy Niemann] called and it was all good news,” Collins said. “He’s swinging well, he ran great and had no discomfort at all.”
Collins wants to see Pagan play center field in at least four straight games before he gets back to the Mets, which wouldn’t get him back to the majors until Sunday’s game against the Yankees, at the earliest.
“He needs to play defense,” Collins said.
First baseman Ike Davis (sprained ankle) still can’t run, and Collins said if that continues to be the case, the first baseman might not be able to come off the DL on May 26, as he had hoped.
“It could be longer,” Collins said. “We’re hoping two weeks, but if he’s gonna go seven days before running on it … he could need more time.”
Reliever Bobby Parnell, still trying to find his form at Triple-A Buffalo after going on the DL April 21 because of a circulatory problem that affected his fingers, pitched a scoreless inning against Indianapolis. He gave up two hits.
