Non-Premium Movie Ticket Prices Hit $15 in Manhattan

So I went to the movies the other night and, for the first time, for a non-IMAX, ordinary 2D showing. Even senior and children’s ticket prices have risen to $12 in my nabe. (The 3D One Direction . That’s what they’re charging you, not what they’re paying you to see it.) I recall that ticket prices were, I think, $7.50 when I first started going to movies here, in 1991, so the inflation rate is only a tick higher than the inflation rate nationwide over the last 22 years. I continue to be mystified why all movies pretty much cost the same and there’s no discount for seeing a $5 million indie as against a $250 million blockbuster.
