City taxpayers will hav🅺e to cough up more than $8 millioꦡn for the wrongful death of a Rikers Island inmate whose chest pains were ignored by guards.
Bronx jurors awarded the estate of 𝔍José Santiago the cash after lawyers accused a city correction officer of twice ignoring the prisoner’s pleas over 30 minutes.
Santiago, 25, was being held in jail in October 1996 on charges 🅘of attempted murder.
