RB Wilson embracing bigger role with Giants

A larger role for David WšŸ‘ilson is complšŸ”œetely fine with him.

Wilson, the Giantsā€™ explosive but untested second-year running back, already had a sizeable burden on him since he hasn’t yet been a full-time starter in the NFL. Today offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride admitted that Wilson will be asked to do even more with backup Andre Brown on short-term IR due to a broken leg.

ā€œIā€™ve got no problem with that,ā€ Wilson said. ā€œWhenever the ballā€™s in my hand, I want to mašŸ”“ke plays and be smart with it. Protect the ball. And when the ballā€™s not in my handā›¦, I want to do things ā€“ run my right routes, catch the ball, protect the quarterback, all those things I need to do.ā€

The only other running backs on the Giantsā€™ active rosteš’ŠŽr are Daā€™Rel Scott and rookie Michael CoxšŸŒ . Combined, the duo has 11 career rushing attempts, all by Scott obviously.

Some other notes:

-Safety Antrel Rolle on his newly-elected captaincy: ā€œItā€™s something I never, ever even imagined would take place. Iā€™m definitely ecstatic for it. I thank my teammates for even having that trust in me and that accountability in me to nšŸ„‚ame me a captain. Iā€™m extremely honored.ā€

-Tom Coughlin had said yesterday that the Giants were attā›¦empting to give Jason Pierre-Paul more work, and the coach said today thatā€™s been the casź¦¬e.

ā€œHeā€™s done more in practice,ā€ Coughlin said of ąµ²his best defensive player, whoā€™s been recovering from back surgery and is questionable for Sunday nightā€™s opener. ā€œHeā€™s gotten a few more snaps.ā€
