Paul Vallone wins City Council primary

A 40-year tradition continues for the Vallone family ā€” thanks to a few dozen voź¦“ters.

Paul Vallone, son of former City Council Speaker Peter Vallone Sr.,šŸ’– has been declared the winner of a close, five-way Democratic primary race to replace disgraced Councilman Dan Halloran in ā™‰Queens.

Vallone won by 190 votes out of about 8,700 cast.

ā€œAt the end of the day, itā€™s under 200 votes [for] . . . the margin of victory. Thatā€™s like two votes per election district,ā€ said sšŸ½econd-place finisher Auź¦stin Shafran.

ā€œBut whether you lost by one or 1,000, it doesnā€™t really matter in the long run.ā€
šŸ°Vallone Sr. served in the council from 1974 to 2001. His seat was assumed by Paulā€™s brother, Peter Vallone Jr., who ran for Queens borough president this year and lost in the primary.

Halloran chose not to seek re-election aftešŸ’§r his arrest on bribery charges in April.

ā€œWe look forward to uniting the Democratic Party and restoring honest and effective leadership to the 19th City Council seat,ā€ said Paul Valloneā€™s spokesman, Austin Finan.
Vallone now faces DenšŸ’Ÿnis Saffran in the general election in the heavily Democratic districtšŸŽ.
