A shaky building in Sohoš¤” forced tenants to evacuate and caused a slight service disruption on the A, C, and āE train lines, authorities say.
A nervous tenant told authorities they felt thš°e six-story building shake and move beneath them at around 3:30 pm, causing fire officials to respond and call in the Dšøepartment of Buildings to assess the stability of the apartment building.
Accordišng to DOB authorities, the building was deemed unstable and unfit to live in after confirming the building was shaking, which led to the evacuation of the 188 Sixth Avenue apartment buildišng.
The shaky condition of the Soho structure even caused trains to run slowly on nearby A, C, and E lines, an MTA spokesman said. According to MTA officials, trains running between the Spring Street and West 4th Street stations were given ‘slow speed orders’ as the building’s stability was assessed.
The City Dź§epartment of Buildings is continuing to check the building out before allowing tenants to return to their homes, according to authorities.
While some tenants claim a nearby construction site is to blame for the shakiness of the building, officials with the Department of Buildings say an investigation of the structure is ongoiš ŗng and no cause has yet to be deštermined.
