Jeter mum on future with Yankees

HOUSTONā€” Derek Jeter wasnā€™t interested in discussing his future when the Yankees seā™›ason ended Sunday.

ā€œI šŸ·havenā€™t even thought about it,ā€ Jeter said aāœ…fter the Yankeesā€™ 5-1, 14-inning win over the Astros.

His season was sidetracked by multiple leg injuries as he trieāœ…d to come back from the fractured ankle he first suffered during the first game of the ALCS last year.

But with a playerā€™s option worth $9.5 million next season, manyź¦« others have thought about it ā€” especially since the team is facing a tremendous amount of turnover.

When asked if he expectedšŸˆ to be back next season, Jeter replied: ā€œI alšŸƒways expect to be back.ā€

With the Yankees?

ā€œCome on now,ā€ Jeter said with a laugh. ā€œI told you Iā€™m not going to talk about next yearšŸ”Æ.ā€

This last year šŸ’Žwas rough for both Jeter and the Yankees.

ā€œIt was memorable because of the festivities for Andy [Pettitte] and MošŸ—¹ [Rivera],ā€ Jeter said. ā€œOn the field, it wasnā€™t memorable.ā˜‚ Iā€™d like to forget it.ā€

And he admitted there was a considerable amount of unknown heź¦†ading into the wšŸŒ inter.

ā€œI donā€™t knową±  whoā€™s going to be here next year,ā€ Jeter said. ā€œNo idea. Managers and coaches are free agents, tooā€¦ Thereā€™s a lot of ifs and questions, whoā€™s comiź¦æng back, whoā€™s not coming back.ā€

But itā€™s not something the Yankees haveą“œnā€™t been througź¦”h before, according to the shortstop.

ā€œWeā€™ve had questions before,ā€ Jeter said. ā€œThešŸ¦„reā€™s been questions most offseasons. There might be a few more this year.ā€

Heā€™s also not worried about potential spending cuts to get payrź¦¦oll under ź§’$189 million next season.

ā€œIf you canā€™t win with šŸŒž$189 million ā€¦ ā€ Jeter said. ā€œItā€™s nšŸ°ot like sitting here with a payroll of $50 million. I donā€™t pay attention to that.ā€

Despite being limited to only 17 gā™“ames this year, he intends to have a normal offseason.

ā€œIź¦šā€™m going to start working out here soon,ā€ Jeterąµ² said.

Manager Joe Girardi said he thinks Jeter will be on the field in 2014, šŸ’žbut how productive he will be largely rešŸŸlies on what he is able to do before spring training.

ā€œI expect him to plašŸŽƒy and I think he will do everything in his power to get back to the form he was in 2012,ā€ Girardi said of the season when Jeter led the league in hits. ā€œHe š’‰°has an offseason where he wants to gain a lot of strength back in his legs and have a normal offseason. It should be good for him.ā€
