New gig for former JCPenney CEO

Maybe Ron Johnson finally gets it: Retail storeą¹Šs just arenā€™t his thing.

The former JCPenney CEO ā€” who was booted last year following a disastrous overhaul attemptā™“ that left the department store crippled ā€” is launching ā€œa high-end, on-demand delivery service for gadgets,ā€ tech news site The Information reported.

Johnson, a former Target exec who previously had heā™’lped Steve Jobs build Appleā€™s retail stores, including its Genius Bars, has kept a low profile since his April 201šŸ’Æ3 ouster from Penney.

Johnsonā€™s moves to reinvent Penney, which included banishing coupons in fź¦Æavor of flat pricing, resulted in a 25 percent sales drop in 2012 that spurred a $1 billion loss anā•d tens of thousands of layoffs.

ā€œThe godfather of Appleā€™s retail stores is trying to reinvent shopping again, this time by getting rid of stošŸ…°res,ā€ according to The Information.
