When Annoushka Ducas and her business partner and husband, John Ayton, sold their luxury jewelry line Links of London in 2006,š ° she thought she was done with the biz.
āI sold Links and thought, āThatās fantastic, I am going to look after my children and be a perfect mother,ā ā the 48-year-old laughs. But as someone who has worked since she was 17, Ducas was
soon itching to get back in thešą² game. And so her new line, Annoushka, was born five years ago.
Ducas is in New York to launch her brand at Saks Fifth Avenue, the first retailer to carry her product outside of the UK. A British native of Russian heritage, Ducasā line is inspired by Russian fables and fairy tales. āIt was a huge learning curve,ā she says modestlyš of her background in baubles. āI wasnāt trained in jewelryš design or as a gemologist.ā
But youād never guess it looking at her handmade pieces, which feature unusual stones, like labradoriļ·½te and coniferoš³us quartz.
āI donāt like to use the same thing over and over, š¼mainly because there are somany new stones to be discovered,ā she says.
āThere is great fear when women buy jewelry, because itās an inź¦Ævestment,ā says author Bronwyn Cosgrave, who alsoš» acts as a luxury-brand consultant. āBut Annoushkaās jewelry ā the workmanship, her track record ā it really resonates when you put it on.ā
Ducasā devotees include Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rišhanna, and she doesnāt second guess her decision to get back in the ā±jewelry business.
āI have the best job,ā she says. āYou get to come in everyą·“ day and play with beautiful jewš°els people want to wear.ā
