Get your patriot on with these Memorial Day movies

If you think the true meaning of Memorial Day is lost under the we꧋ight of barbecued hot dogs and burgers, a convenient way to honor those who’ve served in the armed forces would be to check out some of the movies ൩in the TCM marathon airing Monday.

Here are some of the better choices, in chronological ord🎉er:

9:15 a.m. “The Sand Pebbles” Steve McQueen stars as a naval engineer 🐟stationed in China who r♔escues a group of missionaries in 1926.

12:30 p.m. “From Here to Eternity” James Jones’ World War 🔥II novel was immortalized in this terrific adaptation. Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed and Frank Sinatra star. Winner of eight Oscars.

2:45 p.m. “The Dirty Dozen” Twelve convicted GIs parachute into Nazi-occupied France to scale a chateau housing top-ranking German officers. Starring Lee Marvin🌸 and Er🐎nest Borgnine.

10:15 p.m. “Patton” The justifiably famous and contrꦺoversial biopic about Gen. George S. Patton Jr. driving the Germans from 𒉰North Africa in World War II. Star George C. Scott won the Best Actor Oscar and turned it down. “Patton” also won Best Picture and six more Academy Awards.
