Man charged after $175K in cocaine found in film cannisters at Newark airport

A man tried to smuggle more than $1🐻75,000 worth of Colombian cocaine through Newark Liberty Airport inside film cannisters, officials saiꦅd Wednesday.

Andres Alean Espinosa, a U.S. Citizen, was traveling back from the Airport of Bogota, Colombia, when he walked through security,ܫ authorities said.

But when it came time to screen his luggage, they uncovered 36 film cไanisters stuffed with 10 pounds of the drug, according to a statement released by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“Cocaine is a dangerous narcotic, and CBP does its part in keeping these drugs off the streets.” said Rob🍨ert E. Perez💞, Director of CBP’s New York Field Operations.

“Our officers are determined to p🐠rotect the American people from these illicit substances,” he added.

Espinosa is facing federal prosecution on narcotic🤪s and smಌuggling charges, authorities said.
