Dramatic blaze engulfs taxi while driver, passenger flee

A yellow taxi burst into flames during rush-hour in Midtown on Tuesday afternoon — but the cabbie and passenger survived.

Driver Md Kabir, 46, was on Madison Avenue near 48thღ Street when he heard the sound of sparks under his steering wheel.

“I heard something sound like it was burning,” he🎃 said. “I told the passenger to hurry up and get out. I opened the door and she got out.”

Minutes later, the Ford Transit Connec⛎t was abla🍌ze about 5:55 p.m.

“When the woman got out and saw the flames she was thanking Go෴d that I told her to get out,” said Kabir. “I’m lucky I wasn’t on the highway. Never in my life has something like this happened.”

The driver lost his wallet, cash, and driver’s license. The passenger 🦩tried to give him money, but he wouldn’t take it.

“Shꦿe said, thank God!” Kabir added. “You saved my life.”

Twenty-five smokeaters put out the�🧔� fiery cab, and there were no injuries.

Dozens of byst🔯anders stopped on Madison Avenue to take photos of the seared taxi.

“I saw black smoke and I came running fast,” said pedicab driver Ziyoviddin Bakriddini, 24. “There were firefighters all over the place.”
