Bloomberg steals de Blasio’s spotlight with $100M donation

He still knows how to make headlines.

Former Mayor Mike Bloomberg grabbed the limelight from his successor ahead of Tuesday’s 𝐆Cornell Tech groundbreaking on Roosevelt Island — announcing a last-minute $100 million donation that dominated local n꧋ews coverage.

“Ma♈yor Bloomberg, I have to tell you — you know how to steal the show,” said Lt. Gov Kathy Hochul.

Mayor de Blasio said afterward he only learned of the gift from Bloomꦰber💫g Philanthropies within 24 hours of the ceremony. But he had nothing but praise for the billionaire whose record he ran against in 2013.

“I want to give Michael Bloomberg a true compliment, because he doesn’t usually do things halfway,” de Blasio told a crowd of more than 100 at the Franklin D.♒ Roosevelt

Foꦐur Freedoms Park. “And he believed in this vision and this possibility for New York City. An🌳d largely due to his will and his sense of vision, we are here today.”

In 2010, the Bloomberg administration launched the competition that landed the $2 billion applied-science and engineering campus on 𒁏Roosevelt Island.
