FX axes Crystal’s ‘The Comedians’ after one season

Turns out Billy Crystal’s return to series TV was short-lived.
FX on Thursday cancelled Crystal’s series, “The Comedians,” after one low-rated season (30ജ6,000 viewers, on average).

The mockumentary-style series, adapted from Swedish TV, paired Crystal and Josh Gad as a seasoned pro (Crystal) and obnoxious up-and-comer (Gad) thrown together for a sketch-comedy show.
“#TheComedians is cancelled at FX,” series creator Ben Wexler tweeted out. “I could not be more proud of the work we all did.”
Several TV stars, including Betsy Brandt (“Breaking Bad,” “Masters of Sex”) and Jason O’Mara (“Life on Mars,” “Terra Nova”) tweeted out their regrets over the show’s cancellation.
The series marked Crystal’s first regular series role since “Soap,” which aired on ABC from 1977-81.
Gad was coming off NBC’s short-lived sitcom “1600 Penn,” in which he played the annoying eldest son of the US president.
