NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Dodgers play a weekend series at Citi Field on May 27-29. That became more relevant Sunday when Mets enemy No. 1, Chase Utley, agreed to terms with Los Angeles.
Th♔e Dodgers’ regular second baseman, Howie Kendrick, became a free agent and Los Angeles does not have intention to bring him back. The Dodgers have righty-hitting Enrique Hernandez and Jose Peraza and wante♔d a short-term contract with a lefty-swinger to couple with the youngsters.
So they decided to bring back Utley, though he just had the worst season of his career, turns 37 in two weeks and still faces a two-g𒁏ame suspension.
In Game 2 of the division series, Utley barreled into Ruben Tejada, fracturing the shortstop’s r﷽ight fi♔bula. He was not ejected from the game, but was subsequently suspended for two games. He appealed and a final adjudication is still pending.
The Mets and Dodgers play a four-game🔯 series in Los Angeles on May 9-12 before meeting again later in the month at Citi.
Utley hit just .212 last season with eight homers, and was traded from the Phillies to t𝔍he Dodgers on Aug. 19.
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Spor🐷ts was the first to say the deal was close and Jeff Passan of Yahoo said the sides were in agreement.
