Village Voice brings back ex-editor to lead turnaround

Will Bourne is going home again to the 🌌Village Voice.

News of Bourne’s return as editor-in-chief He replaces Tom Finkel, who has held the job since Bourne quit in May 2013, after refusing to make m𝓰ore staffജ cuts.

Bourne could not be reached for comment. But🧸 he steps 💦into the new job immediately, starting Wednesday.

He had been a top editor at Inc. and Fast Company, owned by Mansueto Vent♌ures, and most recently had been an executive editor at Audubo𝄹n.

Peter Barbey, whose family publishes the Reading Eagle in Pennsylvania, took over the Village Voice in October and has pledged to invest in the paper and website in a bid to return it to i🐓ts former glory.

Forbes ranks Barbey’s family as the 48th-richest, with a $6.1 billion fortune derived from fashion a🦄nd🌜 textiles.

The latest edition of the Village Voice, which is a free weekly, contained only 40 pages with about 15 a🐼d pages. The paper’s trim size has been drastically reduced over the years.

And the long-form investigative pieces, which onꦫe year helped it win a Puli𝓀tzer Prize, have been scaled back as its news hole shrinks.
