Black Democrats pitch Loretta Lynch for Supreme Court

US Attorney ź§…General Loretta Lynch should be tapped to fillšŸŒ„ Justice Anotnin Scaliaā€™s seat on the Supreme Court, urged members of the Congressional Black Caucus on Saturday.

ā€œšŸ˜¼Sheā€™s already been vetted. She meets the criteria,ā€ Rep. ElišŸ§œjah Cummings (D-Md) .

Lynch would be the first African-American womanļ·½ justice on the court. Cummings argued ź§Ÿthat Justice Clarence Thomas, who is also black, does not represent the communityā€™s interests.

ā€œAfrican-Amerź¦¬ican women have played a major role in our electoral process,ā€ Cummings said.

Lynch is a Harvard-educated lawyer and the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, where she prosecuted the AbnšŸØer Louima police brutality case.

She wš’Ŗas confirmed by the Republican-majoritš“†‰y Senate last year in a 56-43 vote.

CBC member Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) said that if President Barack šŸ¤ŖObama nominated Lynch, Republican opposition to the prospect of aāœ…n election-year judicial appointment would crumble.

ā€œProbably moreš’…Œ than anyone else, she would, with open minds, sail through the Judiciary Committee and onto the floor for a vote,ā€ he said.
