WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton is hitting up hackers.
Coinciding with cybersecurity conferences in Las Vegas, Clinton’s campaign is spo𒈔nsoring a fundraiser at Mandalay Bay Casino Wednesday aimed specificall🐠y at computer hackers.
The timing is eyebrow raising as hackers, private emails and Wik💦ileaks have marred her campaign and credibility.
Most recently, hackers stole nearly 20,000 emails from the Democratic Na🧔tional Committee that revealed the supposedly-neutral organization🦄 working on behalf of Clinton to defeat primary rival Bernie Sanders.
Cyber🐻 security experts say hackers are having💎 unprecedented influence on this presidential election.
“It’s a really big deal,” said Tyler Cohen Wood, the cybersecurity advisor at Inspired eLearning and a former Defense Department official. “It shows that hackers have the potential to change the results of an election or at least manipulate the results of an election.”
The “Hilla🌟ry for America Cybersecurity Fundraiser” coinc♚ides with major hacking conventions in Las Vegas: Black Hat and Def Con.
Tickets for the tech fundraiser range from $100 for a young professional to $2,700 for the host committeܫe.
The Democratic nominee is not expectedไ to be there, but Jeff Mos🃏s, founder of the Black Hat and Def Con conferences will host.
Also attending the fundraiser are Hillary for America Cybersecurity Working Group Coordinator Michael Sulmeyer and former Department of Homeland Security White House Liaison Jake Braun “for an evening discussing cyber policy issues fa꧒cing the next administration,” according to the invitation.
꧑The hacking fundraiser was first reported by cybersecurity writer Steve Ragan.
