There’s trouble in paradise on ‘Married at First Sight’

Warning: This article contains spoilers from Season 4, Episode 4 of “Married at First Sight.”

If the “Married at First Sight” honeymoons got off to a fairly ho-hum start last week, Tuesday’s episode certainly brought the drama. Our couples have now known each other for five days, and although they’re vacationing in sunny locales like the Dominican Rep🃏ublic, Jamaica and Puerto Rico, there’s clearly some trouble brewi🍌ng in paradise. Let’s recap.

Nick & Sonia

Our quietest couple haven’t consummated 𓃲their marriage yet, but they start becoming more affectionate while horseback riding and paddleboarding, when Sonia mentions she likes Nick’s body. But so far, Nick has yet to repay the compliment to his wife, which leads to some tension during their pillow-talk homework assignment that night. When Sonia says she really likes her husband and he answers by stressing that he wants their relationship to keep progressing at its current slow pace, she gets peeved wondering what caused him to make the remark. Nick presses her to explain why she’s upset, she clams up, and he retreats to the balcony while she cries.

“I’m j💧ust annoyed by him. I don’t want to be aroꦇund him. I’m kind of just over him,” Sonia says.

But their tiff proves short-lived. By the time Nick comes back in the room, she’s calmed down and they agree to move past it for now and get back to laughing throug𒈔h the rest of their pillow talk.

Conflict meter: low to medium

Lillian & Tom

“Married at First Sight” couple Lillian Vilchez and Tom Wilson have had strong chemistry since their wedding day.Gio Morales

This season’s model couple continued to revel in their newlywed gl⛄ow this week, becoming the first to have sex on Night 1 of their honeymoon. “We were both nervous, we were both shaking with excitement, and it was perfect,” says Tom, who revels in rubbing sunscreen over ♏his wife’s bikini-clad body the next day.

But even these lovebirds aren’t i𝔉mmune from a little miscommunication. As they are sharing things about themselves in bed one night, Tom mentions that he is a “minimalist” (although he doesn’t yet reveal that he lives in a bus). But when he states his distaste for “people that ꦍdrive new cars,” it rubs Lillian, who has a nice car for her job as a real estate agent, the wrong way.

“For you to say that’s a materialistic thing, it hits a nerve for me,” 🍸she tells him.

Tom quickly takes his foot out of his mouth a♋nd explains that by “people” he wasn’t referring to his ဣwife. And their argument is over as quickly as it began.

Conflict meter: low

Derek & Heather

Heather’s simmering discontent over Derek’s smoking habit boiled over in Tuesday’s episode, starting wit⛦h a physical distance between them when they go on what’s meant to be a romantic bike ride. When he brings up the tension on the beach later, she unloads on him for 💮being a smoker, which makes him feel betrayed by her rush to judgment. The two take a couple of hours to cool off, but when Derek returns to their room, Heather hasn’t budged on her anti-smoking stance, which sends him into a fit.

“You cannot get off your high horse fo♕r two seconds. You’re very judgmental,” he says. “I’m offended because you keep insulting me when yo🐻u’ve drank more than I’ve smoked.” Then, the final insult before storming out: “If you go around snipping people off as soon as they do something that you don’t like, then you’re going to be a lonely person.”

In tears for the camera, Heather concedes, “This is the fifth day of our honeymoon and it’s a mess.🍨 I didn’t want it to be like this.” Will she be able to get past Derek’s flaws, or is this marria♚ge doomed from the start? The honeymoons continue (again) next week.
