Black box wasn’t working at time of Hoboken train crash: probe

A black box found in the wreckage of the Hoboken train that crashed last week was not working — and the engineer can’t recall any details about the accident, 🐭probers said Sunday.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board said train engineer Thomas Gallagher, 48, arrived to work “rested” and his cellphone was stored in his backpack when he was in command of the NJ Transit train that began in Spring Valley and crashed into the terminal at Hoboken, killing one person and injuring dozens of others Thursday.

Gallagher told investigators the last thing he recalled was heading the train into the station on track No. 5, knowing he was about 6🍷 minutes late.

The next thing he remembered was “waking up on the floor” after the crash, NTSB spokeswoman Bella Dinh-Zarr said at a briefing Sunday🍒༺ evening.

Gallagher said the train ܫwas coasting into the station at about 10 mph, although witnesses have said it was seen speeding into the terminal before it crashed into the bumper at the e🌌nd of the tracks.
