Big investment firms team up to bid on software company

The Blackstone Group is teaming up with CVC Capital Partners to make a major investment in New York enterprisā›Že software firm Infor, The Post has learned.

The investment, which may or may šŸ’not turn out to be a majošŸ’®rity stake, will value Infor, the Big Appleā€™s largest software firm, at more than $10 billion, two sources close to the situation said.

Apax Partners is alsšŸ’®o believed to be inš“‚ƒ the running with its own bid.

A deal between Steve Schwarzmanā€™s Blackstone, CVC and CharlšŸ§øes Phillipsā€™ Infor could be reached by the end of the month, the sources said.

Infor, which employs 350 people at its headquarters in Chelsea, is a mini-SAP that Phillipą¶£s started running in late 2010 after he resigned as president of Oracle.

Ninety thousand companies run their šŸƒoperations with Infor software, employed to record sales and track inventory, among other uses.

The money Infor will receive from the proposed deal ā€” $2 billion to $4 billion ā€” would be split among Inforā€™s owners, Golden Gate Capital, Summit Partners and Phillips, as well as otheršŸ½ management team members, two sources said.

Presently, Infor is balancšŸƒing its steady revenue with a heavy debt load of $6.5 billion.

Moodyā€™s Investš’‰°ors Service rates Inforā€™s debt at B3, a high credit risk.

In fact, with the company generating only $320 million in 2015 cash flow, it has too ą²žmuch debt (20 times its cash flow) to list its shares in an initial publicš’ offering, a debt analyst said.

There are no sigź§‘nificant principal payments due untšŸ“–il 2020, the analyst said.

Earnings are only expected to grow about ąµ²5 percent annually in the near term, the analyst said.

The company is working hard on industry verticals and sub-verticals, and moving cusā™tomers to the cloud to boost its growth, a source said.

Blackstone is partly attracted to the business bź¦œecause its software is hard to replace, making annual maintenance fees a reliable source of revenue, sources said.

In 20š†10, thšŸŽ‰e married Phillips made headlines after his longtime girlfriend, after discovering he was not single, placed posters featuring photos of them in happier times in various parts of several cities.

The posšŸ’®ters placed by the woman, Yaš’ŖVaughnie Wilkins, featured a quote from Phillips to her: ā€œYou are my soul mate forever.ā€

Blacksā™Žtone, CVC ašŸ¦©nd Infor declined comment on the proposed investment. Apax did not return calls.
