Jack Capuano gets support from a coach who has been fired often

John Tortorella can relat⭕e to Jack Capuano, who was fired by the Islande𝓰rs last week.

“I’ve talked to him since the firing,” Tortorella said before Capuano’s former team beat 💛his Blue Jackets, 4-2, at Barclays Center on Tuesday night. “He’s gonna be fine. One door closes, another one’s goꦦing to open up for him.”

Tortorellaꦍ, who has been axed by the Lightning, Rangers andౠ Canucks, had Capuano as one of his assistants on Team USA in last September’s World Cup.

“He’s a hard-working guy,” Tortorꦿella said. “It’s really the first time I got to know him, at the World Cup. I heard so many great things about him and that’s why I wanted him on our staff. He’s a really good coach — and I’m sure [Doug Weight] is, too. Jack will be fine. He’ll land on his feet.”

Torᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚtorella said he has remained in touch with Capuano.

“I was texting him during the tim🥃e all the noise was around him for quite a while, just to try to len𓆏d support,” Tortorella said. “I loved working with him. He is one intelligent guy. He’d been here a while.”


Andrew Ladd made his return to the lineup Tuesday after missing four games with an upper-body injury, but just ge🌱tting him back on the ice won’t be enough for the Islanders to change their fortunes.

They also need Ladd to playꦛ better — considerably — than he has since signing with the Isles in the offseason.

“I just wanted to be a part of the way we’ve been playing the last little bit,” Ladd said bef🎉ore the game. “You try to inject some energy, some emotion into getting back in the lineup and I just want to be a part of winning some hockey games. I’m excited to get back in there.


Anthony Beauvillier sat out after blocking a shot agai💛nst the Flyers ♔on Sunday. Weight said he doesn’t expect the rookie to be out long.


Bro🌄ck𝄹 Nelson scored to make it 3-1 in the third period. It was his first goal since scoring twice on Dec. 29 in Minnesota.

“He had some great chances of late, but it starts to weigh on you,” Weigh🅠t said. “He had two really good [chances] in the first.”
