Ken Thompson ‘was not of sound mind’ in final months: lawyer

The late Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson “was not o🅰f sound mind” during his final months in office, one of his top prosecutors told The Post on Tuesday.

📖Marc Fliedner, currently a private-practice lawyer, also said Thompson’s stunning decision last year to recommend no jail time for a killer cop was among the “bizarre” changes he observed in his former boss.

“Su𓆉ddenly a principled man for whom I’d been proud to work was doing and saying things that were not reflective of who ꧋he truly was,” the former prosecutor said.

Fliedner’s allegations echo those made by Thompson’s mom, Clara Thompson, who has claimed in court papers that her son was l📖eft “incoherent” and “delusional” from aggressive medical treatment after his colorectal cancer “metastasized to his brain.”

Thompson hid his battle with cancer from the public until Oct. 4,𒀰 five days befor♕e he died at age 50.

Clara T🦩hompson has said her son was diagnosed in April, but Fliedner said the changes he witnessed in Thompson’s judgment and b﷽ehavior began even earlier.

“DA Kenneth Thompson was not of sound mind in the🌳 final months of his life,” Flied𒆙ner said.

Fliedner is among several candidates challenging acting District Attorney Eri🃏c Gonzalez, who was formerly Thompson’s chief assistant, for🎶 the Democratic nomination to run for DA.

Fliedner was also the prosecutor who won a manslaughter conviction against NYPD cop Peter Liang for the 2014 accidental shooting of Akai Gurley in a dar𝕴kened housing-🌞project stairwell.

He said Thompson decided in March 2016 to recommend that Liang be sentenced to probation, even though he faced up to 15 years in the slammer at the time. Liang’s conviction was🎐 later downgraded.

Fliedner said he ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚhad wanted Gurley’s relatives to “be involved in the process” — which Fliedner said “Gonzalez was directly a a part of” — but they instead found💙 out by listening to a news report on the radio.

“Gonzalez was aware of♎ the basis for this erratic behavior, but he did not inform others, and did nothing to mitigate it,” Fliedner said Thompson’s actions in the case.

Fliender also blasted Gonzalez’s decision to bar Clara Thompson from a since-postp♋oned event naming a conference room after her late son, on what would have been his birthday, due to her ongoing estate feud with Thompson’s ♚widow, Lu-Shawn Thompson.

“You can tell a lot about a p💧erson by the way they treat soꦦmeone’s mother,” Fliedner said.

A spokeswoman for the Brooklyn DA’s Office said Fliedner’s “attempts to tarnish the legacy and groundbreaking work of DA Thompson 🐻and to take advantage of what should be a private family matter for his own political purposes are shameful.”
