ABC greenlights ‘Roseanne’ revival

Another ’90s comeไdy is making a comeback. On Tuesday, ABC officially picked up an eight-episode revival of “Roseanne,” starring its original cast.

The sequel, first rumored, will premiere on the network next year. Ro🎶seanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky) will reprise their original characters, while Sarah Chalke, who played Becky in later seasons, will return in another role.

“Roseanne” was lauded in its original 1988-1997 run on ABC for its frank portrayal of a working-class American family. According to the network’s announcement, the new episodes “will continue to de💎al with the economic challe💝nges of living paycheck-to-paycheck in 2018.”

“T🍎he Conners’ joys and struggles are as relevant — and hilarious — today as they were then, and there’s really no one better to comment on our modern America than Roseanne,” said ABC Entertainment president✤ Channing Dungey in a statement.

The blue-collar comedy landed at ABC, its former ho🐓me, after  that Netflix was also interested in bidding on the project. That streaming giant has already revived series including “Full House,” “Gilmore Girls” and “Arrested Development.”

Between “Roseanne” and NBC’s upcoming “Will & Grace” revival, this fall’s shaping up to be a nostalgia-heavy TV season.
