PBA backs Eric Gonzalez for Brooklyn DA job

The Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association announced Wednesday that it is backing acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez in his bid for the job this fall.

“Eric Gonzalez has spent his career fighting to make New York City safer — a goal we share as police officers,” PBA President Patrick Lynch said in a statement.

“As a senior prosecutor — and most recently as Acting District Attorney — he has demonstrated a clear commitment to justice and fairness, as well as an understanding of the difficult and unique nature of a police officer’s duties.”

Gonzalez took over the office when District Attorney Ken Thompson passed away from cancer in October 2016.

“During my tenure as a prosecutor, I have had the opportunity to work with police officers to keep Brooklyn safe and reform our criminal justice system to be fairer for all Brooklynites,” Gonzalez said in a statement. “I am proud to get the PBA’s endorsement in the race for District Attorney and look forward to maintaining our record of accomplishments.”

Gonzalez is vying for the position against five ot🍌her 🌊Democrats.

The primary will take place Sept. 12, with the general election scheduled for 𝔍Nov. 7.
