Who’s on the ballot for next week’s primary elections

Mayor de Blasiಞo isn’t the only candidate on the ballot in next Tuesday’s primary election:

  • In Brooklyn, acting District Attorney Eric Gonzalez — who has the backing of Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and much of the Democratic Party establishment — is facing six rivals with prosecutorial experience. Anne Swern, Patricia Gatling, Marc Fliedner, Ama Dwimoh and John Gangemi all have worked as prosecutors in the DA’s office. Term-limited Councilman Vincent Gentile of Bay Ridge, who was an assistant Queens DA, is also running.
  • City Council — East Harlem/South Bronx. The race to replace Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito features two main contenders — Assemblyman Robert Rodriguez and Diana Ayala, a Mark-Viverito aide who has the backing of the Working Families Party. Rodriguez won endorsements from the Bronx Democratic leader, Assemblyman Marcos Crespo.
  •  City Council — Throngs Neck/Morris Park, Bronx. Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj has the backing of the Bronx Democratic Party. Marjorie Velazquez is supported by the WFP. John Doyle says he is an alternative to machine politics. Gjonaj has racked up endorsements from the firefighters and transit-workers unions and amassed a $745,000 war chest. But Velazquez has attracted the support of Mark-Viverito, and Doyle has hammered Gjonaj for his misuse of parking placards.
  • City Council — Corona/East Elmhurst, Queens. Assemblyman Francisco Moya and former state Sen. Hiram Monserrate are duking it out over Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras-Copeland’s soon-to-be-vacated seat.
