Billy Joe Saunders’ young son attacked rival Willie Monroe, Jr. with a brutal punch and kick to the groin in Friday’s astonishing weigh-in.
Stevie, 7, took aim at the boxer, wꦯhacking him with a swift combination of blows.
It all started off like a regular weigh-in as the pair squared up ahead of their showdown on Saturday night. Billy Joe‘s son is then seen approaching the pair, only to be ushered away. But that doesn’t stop him, as he wriggles his way between the two boxers. As Monroe gives the youngster a friendly tap on the head, Stevie unleashes a venomous punch to the groin. He follows that up by aiming a kick at the cle൩arly startled Monroe.
All the while, Billy Joe stands by posing, flexing his biceps for the camera — barely flinching at his son’s below-the-belt antics.
However, following the weigh-in, Billy Joe defended his son’s actions, : “My sons been taught when A stranger puts their hands on them they don’t know punch and run away self defense.”
Saunders and Monroe will meet✤ on Saturday in London with the WBO Middleweight title on the line.
Monroe’s camp used the opportunity to question Saunders’ credibility.
“When you roll with a wolf pack and the leader of the pack is like Saunders is, that’s the outcome — you get screwed up little kids. That’s what is wrong with the world today,” Monroe said. “Maybe Billy Joe Saunders is teaching his kids to do wrong. He seems like a horrible person.”
It didn’t rattle Willie, though, who thought it was cute.
“But we are over in another country, nine of us, we’re not rattled one bit,” he continued. “But that little situation looks bad on British boxing. We knew something was going to happen but that was what you call, dare I say it, a low blow.”
