Pair of cops injured after protesters throw bricks, descend on mayor’s house

Two St. Louis police officers were injured when they were struck by bricks during violent protests that broke out Friday night after a white cop was acquitted of murder charges for killing a black motorist.

Police struggled to keep the peace in the hours after Jason Stockle, a former St. Louis cop, beat the rap in the 2011 slaying of Anthony Lamar Smith.

At least one of the two officers suffered a “serious injury” from a thrown brick, police said.

About 1,000 protesters took their frustrations out on St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson, whose home was splattered with red paint and had a window broken.

“We think we have the right house!” one protester yelled over a bullhorn.

Police in bulletproof vests ordered protesters off the mayor’s lawn and eventually had to use tear gas to disperse that unruly crowd.

Later, at least two armored vehicles were deployed.
