Al Sharpton: Meek Mill is ‘symbol of the abuse’ of US prison system

Meek Mill is a “symbol” of the broken ꦆUS justice system, a🔴ccording to Rev. Al Sharpton.

The civil-rights activist met with the incarcerated rapper on Monday to discuss his controversial prison sentence and what he plans to do with all the attention and support he’s been g🧸etting because of it.

“I came because I feel that Meek represents thousands of people in Pennsylvania, and even tens of thousands around the country, that have been victimized by abusive probationary and parole systems,” Sharpton told reporters after meeting with Meek and his attorney, Joe Tacopina.

“If you can do this to a successful artist like Meek Mill, you can do this to many around the country,” Sharpton said. “He is representative of something far more than his stardom — he’s a symbol of the abuse of this system.”

Meek is currently locked up in Philadelphia after being He was in NYC and getting into a fight at an airport༺.

The hip-hop star 🐽has been on probation for nearly a decade and has several violation🌠s in the past.

While the , the judge in Meek’s case — Genece E. Brinkley — for some reason chose to bring the hammer down on him, despite recommendations from the district attorney and Meek’s probation officer to avoid prison time.

“I gave you break after break, and you basically just thumbed your nose at this court,” she reportedly told him during his sentencing earlier this month.

Since then, countless people have come to Meek’s defense — calling his sentence unjust and excessive.

“(Meek’s) frustrated, really frustrated and knows he’s being treated different than anyone else,” Tacopina told CNN last week. “If his name was John Smith, he wouldn’t be in jail.”

Many feel that Brinkley seeing how he she repeatedly asked Meek to drop his record label, Roc Nation, and to return to Mack — a renowned entertainment figure from Philly.

“He’s representative of many people in institutions like this that do little or nothing,” Sharpton said Monday. “They’re violated and their lives, their businesses are ruined.”
