Millennials think US is screwed, but not them: poll

Most millennials believe the country is on the wrong track and blame President Trump and Congress — but they remain optimistic about their future, .

Sixty-three percent of millennials believe the country is heading in the wrong direction, while only 18 percent say it’s on the right track and 18 percent say they aren’t sure, an NBC News/Gen Forward Survey .

An equal amount, 63 percent, disapprove of how Trump is handling his job — while only 19 percent approve of the president, the survey says. Seventeen percent have no opinion.

As for Congress, 61 percent of millennials disapprove of the job it’s doing, and only 12 percent approve. Another 25 percent don’t have an opinion.

While millennials have an unfavorable view of the Republican Party — 62 percent — they are split on Democrats: 44 percent favorable to 43 percent unfavorable, the poll shows.

Twenty-four percent have a favorable view of the GOP.

But looking ahead to their own prospects​ of finding a job, paying off student loan debt and being able to afford the lifestyle they want, 59 percent of millennials ​said they’re optimistic and 35 percent say they’re pessimistic.

​The poll surveyed 1,844 people nationally between the ages of 18 and 34 from Jan. 3 to Jan. 16.

​It was conducted through the University of Chicago and has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.95 percentage points.
