Girl injured by plank that fell from construction site

An 8-year-old girl was injured when a piece of wood fell four stories from a windowsill at a Queens construction site and struck her in the heaš“”d Friday morning, cops said.

Tatiana Devia was walking by the Jackson Heights site on 35th Avenue near 84th Street around 9:30 a.m. when a construction worker tossed the large plank — about the size of a door, according to police and the girlā€™s mother, Olga Piedrahita, 29.

ā€œThere [were] no ršŸ’opes, no sign of construction sites, no warning, no nothing,ā€ Piedrahita said. ā€œMy husband of course, he went crazy. He šŸŒŠwent rushing to my daughter. She was gushing blood from her head.ā€

TatiÜ«anź§™a, whom cops described as conscious and alert, was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center.

She needed three staples for a cut a little less than an inch lonź©²g to her head, Piedrahita said.

On the way to the hospital, the frightened young girl kept repeating the sš“†‰ame question.

ā€œAll she kept saying in the ambulance was, ā€˜Whš’ƒy would he throw that at me?ā€™ā€šŸ”“ Piedrahita said.

Piedrahita claimed that the construction workers bolted off after the incident — even though the worker who dropped the plank apparently saw what happened.

ā€œHe made eye contact with šŸŒ¼my husšŸŽƒband,ā€ she said. ā€œItā€™s not like he didnā€™t see us or anything. He saw us.ā€

The city Department of Buildings issued a stop work order in the hours after the accident, citing “debris falling from the 4th floor construction.”

Complaints filed with Buildings on Friday alleged that laborers were throwing refuse from the building’s windows and working without any protective safety netting.

A total of 13 complaints have been lodged against the building oveź§…r the last two years, records show.

Piedrahita said Tatiana, her husband and her 3-year-old son Diego were heading to the park when the plank came tumbling down. Neither Tatiana nor Diego — who was ā€œcrying hystericallyā€ — wanted to return home, she said.

ā€œI hope my daughter doesnā€™t have any future side effects from all of this,ā€ Piedrahita said. ā€œI hope no other mošŸŒ±ther has to go through this or anybody.ā€
