Jets’ offense crashes and burns in a huge mess of a loss

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Any notions of the Jets still having a glimmer of hope 💃at making a playoff run melted in the South Florida 𓆏heat Sunday.

The Dolphins beat the Jets 13-6 in a game that set back offensive football about 80 years. No one told the Jets and Dolphins the NFL has ♓become dominated by offense.

This was a game dominated by punters as both offenses sputtered and slippedꦗ up all day long. The only touchdown in the game came on an interception return for a score by Miami linebacker Jerome Baker with 10:56 left to go in the 🥀fourth quarter.

It w♚as the second of four interceptions for rookie quarterback Sam Darnold, who played his worst game of the season. Nothing worked for the Jets on offense. They could not run the ball. They could not pass the ball. They could not even snap the ball.

Center Spencer Long had rep꧃eated bad snaps, and it continuously threw Darnold off. Even on the pick-six, it appeared a bad snap forced Darnold to keep his eyes down for an extra second.

Da♏rnold went 21-of-39 for 229 yards passing with four interceptions. His QB rating was 31.8.

The Jets, who dropped to 3-6, 𓆏had five three-and-outs in the game and punted six times.

The Dolphins were not much better than the Jets offensively. Dolphins quarterback Brock Osweiler struggled all day long, but he d💝id not turn the ball over. That was the difference in the game.

Miami took a 6-0 lead in the first half on two Jason Sanders field🎐 goals, one set up by a Kiko Alonso interception of Darnold.

The Jets got o🔜n t𒐪he board just before halftime with a 48-yard field goal from Jason Myers, cutting the score to 6-3.

The Jets threatened to take the lead early in the fourth quarter. They reached the Dolphins’ 20-yard line before imploding. Cameron Wake beat tackle Brandon Shell to sack Darnold for a 7-yard loss. Then, the Jets were ca꧃lled for delay of game. That made it third-and-19 at the Miami 32. The Jets tried a short pass to Jermaine Kearse, who dropped the ball. Myers missed a 50-yard field goal.

Myers redeemed himself later in the quarter, kicking a 56-yard field goal to draw the Jets to within a touchdown. The Jets had two l𝓰ate chances at touchdown drives that ended in interceptions from Darnold.

The two punters combined for 15 punts in the🅠 game.
