Jeff Flake will introduce bill to protect Mueller investigation

Lame🐻 duck GOP Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona said Thursday that he and Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Maryland would introduce legislatio🦋n to protect special counsel Robert Mueller.

“When the Senate convenes next week, @ChrisCoons and I will ask for unanimous consent to bring the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, to a vote on t💎he Senate floor. After the firing of The AG, it is more important than ever to protect the Special Counsel,” .

Prior efforts to pass such legislation failed, so the fate of the bill is u🧜nclear with the GOP still holding a 51-49 majority in the Senate.

But Maine Sen. Susan Collins also said that the Trump administration should not interfere in Mueller’s probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“It is imperative that the Administration not impede the Mueller investigation. I’m concerned Rod Rosenstein will no longer be overseeing the probe. Special Counsel Mueller must be allowed to complete his work without interference—regardless of who is AG.” .

Mueller’s fate became unclear after President Trumpꦦ fired Attorney General J♈eff Sessions and replaced him with Matthew Whitaker, who has repeatedly slammed Mueller’s probe and will now oversee it.
