Syracuse would like to buy a vowel — specifically, that first “e” in “Boeheim.”
As if the No. 15 ranked Orangeâs 83-76 loss to UConn on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden weren’t bad enough, the last name of Buddy Boeheim — son of legendary coach Jim Boeheim — was misspelled âBoheimâ on the back of his jersey.
Hard to believe someone would get it wrong, with Jim Boeheim being in his 43rd seaęĻđson coaching at Syracuse, after playing there as well.
Playing his first game for the Orange at the Garden, Buddy Boeheim scored just one point in six minutes and missed his only shot,đĻš a 3-pointer.
The jersey mistake was part of whatâę§s been a frustrating season. In Syracuseâs first two games, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 26 minutes, shot just 2-of-18 from the field and made 1 of 10 3-pointers, while averaging 3.0 points, 3.5 rebounds anęĻd 2.5 assists.
âHeâs a good player, but heâs like all freshmen, it takes you a while to geęĻt used to college basketball,â Jim Boeheim said earlier this week. âItâs been good that heâs getting shots. Sometimes as a shooter, itâs hard to figure out where your shots are. Hđeâs finding shots, he just hasnât made them. He made them through the exhibitions, and throughout practices. Heâs just got to keep getting those shots. Heâs a good shooter. And heâll make them.â
Then maybe they’ll remember how to spell his name.
