Nick Ayers won’t be Trump’s next chief of staff after all

WASHINGTON — Nick Ayers, the 36-year-old chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence, will not be taking the chief of staff job at the White House, according to a report Sunday.

Ayers had long been discussed as the individual who would replace John Kelly, who will be leaving by the end of the year. President Trump broke the news himself, telling reporters about Kellyā€™į©šį©šį©šį©šį©šį©šā¤ā¤ā¤ā¤į©šā¤ā¤ā¤ā¤į©šā¤ā¤ā¤ā¤į©šš’€±į©šį©šį©šs exit as he left for the Army-Navy game on Saturday.

But that Ayers and Trump couldnā€™t agree on a time frame, with the veep’s top aide — who is the father of 6-year-old triplets — only able to commit for the first few months of next year. Trump decided he wanted someone in the job for longer.

The presidentā€™s next šŸŽƒchief of staff will be his third in under two years.

Ayers confirmed he was ošŸ ut oā™f the running with a tweet.

ā€œThank you @realDonaldTrump, @VP, and my great colleaź©²gues for the honor to serve our Nation at The White House. I will be departing at the end of the year but will work with the #MAGA team to advance thšŸ¤”e cause,ā€ .

on Ayersā€™ trepidation Saturday, while also naming Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchš’‰°in, budget director Mick Mulvaney and U.S. trade rep Robert Lighthizer as ź¦¦possible candidates.

Meanwhile, Sunday that Rep. Maą± rk Meadows (R-N.C.), who heads the conservatšŸ¦‹ive House Freedom Caucus, is also under consideration.

LighthizšŸŒ±er hinted he wasnā€™t išŸ”„nterested in the job Sunday.

ā€œI havenā€™t spoken to anyone. Iā€™m entirely fš“°ocused on what Iā€™m trying to do and ā€¦ itā€™s difficult enough,ā€ Lighthizeź¦¦r said.

Trump will likely make Ayers the headšŸ’™ of his outside group, America First, Axios reported.
