The tailor to Prince William, John Legend is setting up shop in NYC

New York is getting its own slice of Savile Row.

London-based tailor Richard James — known for its tony clients, including Prince William, Davi🐬d Beckham, John Legend and Zayn Malik — ope𒆙ned its first US shop this week, in landmark tower 461 Park Ave., at 57th Street.

“We will be the first Savile Row tailor to have a stand-alone store in New York,” notes co-found🅘er Sean Dixon. “It’s important that we can connect with New York men and give them confidence in British style.”

Dixon says his goal is to help men embrace color and look beyond their usual wardrobe requirements. To that end, the New York store will stock a small selection of exclusive fabrics, a🥃s well as unique ready-to-wear items such as socks, shoes, suits and shirts (jackets begin at $950 and pants at $395, with accessories from $32). Naturally, the famed tailoring house will also offer its luxury bespoke services (custom suits from $4,999).

To bring its trans-Atlantic vision to life, the label tapped UK design firm Andy Martin Architecture (which handled its London flagship) to conceptualize the 2,260-square-foot space. Martin focused on concepts of “reflection, transience, chroma and illusion” in his design — all elements that he says are reflected in the brand’s collections. He also divided the store betweꦜen ready-to-wear and bespoke using a translucent screen treated with a dichroic film, offering a shift in “color, luminosity and reflectiveness.”

“It is important to us that we maintain a certain sense of integrity and irreverence i꧅n everything we do, because that’s what w📖e are known for,” Dixon says.

And this 🔯is just the beginning, with plans to open more Richard James locations in the US as soon as the NYC shop is up and running. Sounds like the measure of success.
