Chinese intelligence officers indicted for trying to steal US technology

The Justice Department is going after Chinese intelligence officers who for years have been attempting to steal US technology, according t💮o a newly unsealed indictment.

Prosecutors wওith the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office on Thursday charged two Chinese nationals who allegedly work with the Ministry of State Security and are members of a hacking group.

Starting in 2006, members have been trying to hack computer networks of commercial and defense technolog🥀y companies — and US government agencies — to steal technology, prosecutors said.

The suspects successfully accessed computers in at least 12 states, including New🌜 York, and stole “hundreds of ♌gigabytes of sensitive data,” prosecutors said. The men remain at large.

“It is galling that American companies and government agencies spent years of researc𝐆h and countless dollars to develop their intellectual property, while the defendants simply stole it and got it for free,” Manhattan US Attorney Geoffrey Berman said. “As a nation, we cannot, and will not, allow such brazen thievery to go unchecked.”
