Don’t give Schumer & Co. a pass for government shutdown

President Trump may deserve all the heat he’s getting for his bumbling role in triggering a government shutdown over border-wall funding, but Democrats — Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, in particular — are no angels.

All Trump will get “with his temper tantrum is a shutdown,” de🗹clared Schumer. “He will not get a wall.”

Translation: 🍎Democrats prefer a government shutdown to giving Trump one dime for his bloody border wall. Which sounds like a bit of a “tantrum” in itself.

Schumer and his party-mates clearly thought they’d get a free pass when Trump offered to take responsibility for the cl𝓀osure of some federal operations.

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chu🍎ck,” Trump said. “I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it.”

That♋ was all Schumer needed to hear: Dems, he figured, could now be as intransigent as, well, Trump and escape all blame.

Well, maybe their friends in media are now rallying behind them. But that hardly absolves Dems: Remember, the $5 billion Trump wants for his top priority — one that helpe♛d get him elected — is but a tenth of a percent of the federal budget (and he’d probably take less). Yet Schumer & Co. aren’t willing to give him even a tiny win.

With the Senate not due back until T🍸hursday, and the White House warning the turmoil could drag into the new year, things are looking grim. But if either side truly wanted to end the fight, it could. And if neither does, then both deseꦗrve blame.
