Pelosi, Schumer will deliver response to Trump’s prime-time address

WASHINGTON — Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer will deliver a response to President Trump’s prime-time address to the nation Tuesday night.

Pelosi’s office made the announcement Tuesday mo꧃rning.

Pelosi and Schumer demanded equal time after the White House requested that television networks make time to ꧒address the nation from the Oval Office over what the administration is calling a “crisis” at the southern border.

Trump is trying to drum up public support for his long-promised border wall,🥃 which led to a partial government shutdown that is𒀰 now in its third week.

Trump will also travel to the border with Mexico on Thursday.

“Now th💖at the television networks have decided to air the President’s address, which if his past statements are any indication will be full of malice and misinformation, Democrats must immediately be given equal airtime,” Pelosi and Schumer said in a statement Monday night.

NBC, CNN and CBS all announced they would carry the Democratic response. The Post🌳 also confirmed that Fox, Fox News and Fox Business offered time to the Democratic leaders.

The opposition party traditionally gets time for a rebuttal after the president’s annual State of the Union address.
