Why Ariana Grande’s new ‘7 Rings’ video is a savage smash hit

Ariana Grande dropped a bomb at midnight.

The new video for her single “7 Rings” has already racked up more than 5.7 million views on YouTube less than eight hours after it went online.

The 25-year-old’s latest banger is backed by a track that plays playful homage to “My Favorite Things” from “The Sound of Music.”

And Grande’s lyrics make it quite clear she’s moved on from the death of ex-boyfriend and her broken engagement with “Saturday Night Live” star .

“Been through some bad s–t/ I should be a sad bitch/ Who would’ve thought it’d turn me to a savage/ Rather be tied up with gauze and not strings/ Write my own checks like I write what I sing.”

The main takeaway: 2019 is about female empowerment — 𒁏the boys are . Clad in blinged out kitty ears and sporting a stairwell-length ponytail, Grande purrs out this rap-ready chorus:

“Wearing a ring but not cause I’m no Mrs./ Bought matching diamonds for six of my bitches, I’d rather spoil all my friends with riches/ Think retail therapy my new addiction/ I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it.”

And spoil her pals she did.

In December, Granded to her and her best pals — Victoria Monét, Courtney Chipolone, Alexa Luria, Tayla Parx, Njozma, Alexa Luria and Kaydence — all of whom made cameos in her rosè-hued video. (BTW: She said her “mom and nonna” got bonus rings after the track was already completed.)
