De Blasio aide fired after sex harassment complaints lost last job over similar circumstances

A de Blasio aide who was quietly booted from City Hall in 2017 after a number of sexual harassment complaints were𝓀 made against him was fired from his previous political job for similar complai♈nts, according to a new report.

Kevin O’Brien was fired from his job as a senior adviser💧 for the Democratic Governors Association in 2015 after a woman who worked with him complained that he had sexually harassed her, .

O’Brien had been working for Montana Gov.⛎ Stev🎐e Bullock and was given the position in the governors association when Bullock served a one-year term as chair, according to the report.

“When I was made aware of the complaint against Mr. O’Brien at the Democratic Governors Association, I fully agreed with the decision to end his employment,” Bullock wrote in a statement to the Timeꦺs.

“It’s clear that was not enough to protect these women from what has proven to be an unacceptable patte🔜rn of behavior on his part. We all have a responsibility to do better and to put an🍸 end to sexual harassment, and I’m committed to doing my part,” he added.

About a month after he was fired from the governors association, O’Brien was hired by the de Blasio administration. The association did not return calls for further comment.

City Hall spokesman Eric Phillips told The Post on Monday night that the mayor was not aware𓂃 of the previous complaints. He added that the Department of Investigation conducted a background check on O’Brien before he was hired and they “received confirmation of title and work dates and no adverse information.”

O’Brien resigned as a senior mayoral adviser in March 2018 after investigators confirmed “sexual harassment in violation of the city’s Equal Employment Opportunity policy,” according to a heavꦏily redacted seven-page report from the city Law Department.

He did not return request for comment, but told the Times in a sta⭕tement: “There’s 𓄧no excuse for what I’ve done. I’m embarrassed and ashamed. No one deserves to be treated that way. I’ve apologized to the people I’ve hurt and will continue to do so because I am truly sorry.”
